Condensed Milk Cake

This recipe was in one of the many leaflets supplied to citizens on the Home Front in Britain by the Ministry of Food. The leaflets were full of recipes to help people cope with rationing. This recipe was in the leaflet "Making the most of the Sugar." The original recipe is included here with measurement conversions included. Butter may be used instead of margarine.

- Rub the margarine into the flour and add the baking powder if used, sugar and dried fruit.
- Mix to a soft consistency with the marmalade, milk and beaten eggs.
- Turn into a greased 6-inch cake tin and bake in a moderate oven [375°F/190°C] for 45 minutes.
